Body Ritual

In today's society, too many people are worried about their image and how other people view them. People are also too consumed with themselves. Self-confidence comes sparingly- people don't love themselves as much as they should. People take pride in how others view them and how they think of them. The quantified values of confidence are Instagram likes and comments. If someone doesn't get over 500 likes they become insecure and this shouldn't be how it is. In my life, I try to be the best version of myself that I can be and not to really care about negative things other people say about me. I study to do well in my classes, I go to the gym almost every day, and am trying to eat the right foods. I have the same schedule every weekday: I wake up around 6:30, take a shower, get ready for school, get to school at 7:10, go to classes, go to the gym at 2:30, work out for an hour and a half, go to the sauna, go home, shower, do homework, eat, relax, go to sleep, and do it all...

I Want A Job

I currently do not have a job. I know I could easily get a part time job that doesn't get in the way with my school work, but I don't. I want a job where I have shifts that are catered to my schedule. If I am told to come in at 3:00, but I would rather go to the gym and work at 5:00, they should understand this and let me come in later. I want a job where I don't have to work super hard. I'll do my job as an employee, as long as I want to. I want a job that I get paid 6-figures when I work part time and still go to school. Once I get out of school, however, my pay should increase to at least 7-figures. I want a job where they'll give me plenty of paid vacation "when I need a rest and change of scene" (Brady 1). I want a job where the boss is understanding if I come in late because I have a life outside of work. I want a job where if I am working on school work they will understand because I am only employed part time. I want a job where I can take as many...

Perspective

In There Is No Unmarked Woman , by Deborah Tannen, she says "the men's styles were unmarked" and that "there in no unmarked woman", hence the title of the piece (Tannen 553-54). While there may not be an unmarked woman, I think it is unfair for her to claim that these men were unmarked. There may not have been something very flamboyant about these men that would've caught her eye, but that doesn't mean they are unmarked. Since she is a woman she might not be as keen at picking up small details in men's appearance as men are. Just like the way I don't pick up on small details in girl's appearances, she might not have been able to pick up on details in the men's appearances. She wasn't a member in that specific community, so for her to label them as unmarked and comparing them to the people in her community, the marked women, is biased. However, it could have been different back then when she wrote this, but nowadays, there are labels f...
